  History of the Packerland Conference

The Packerland Conference was established by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) in 1970.

The original 10 members of the Packerland Conference were Algoma (1970-), Chilton (1970-80), Kewaunee (1970-), Kiel (1970-80), Luxemburg-Casco (1970-2007), New Holstein (1970-80), Plymouth (1970-80), Sheboygan Falls (1970-80), Southern Door (1970-), and Sturgeon Bay (1970-).

Due to a major WIAA conference realignment of northeast Wisconsin in 1980, Chilton, Kiel, New Holstein, Plymouth, and Sheboygan Falls left the Packerland Conference. Those schools were replaced by Gibraltar (1980-) and Sevastopol (1980-). As a result, the Packerland was now a 7-school conference.

In 1984, the Packerland became a 9-school conference with the addition of Oconto (1984-) and Oconto Falls (1984-99) as a result of a WIAA adjustment of conferences in northcentral Wisconsin.

Due to another major WIAA conference realignment of northeast Wisconsin in 1999, Oconto Falls left the Packerland Conference and was replaced by Denmark (1999-2007) and NEW Lutheran (1999-). Once again, the Packerland became a 10-school conference.

In 2007, Denmark and Luxemburg-Casco left the Packerland Conference in another WIAA adjustment of conferences in northeast Wisconsin. The Packerland would remain as an 8-school conference until Peshtigo (2017-) was admitted as the 9th member in 2017.

Over the years, the following individuals have served as the Commissioner of the Packerland Conference: George Bahrke (1970-2002), Terry Dooley (2002-16), and Mike Holtz (2016-).
